The original release of 'Tears', released 34 years ago by Satoshi Tomiie, Robert Owens and the Godfather of House Music, Frankie Knuckles has left a lasting impression on all of us. Long-time friend and regular cohort of Frankie Knunckles, Elbert Phillips, has joined forces with London soul brother, Andre Espeut, on a beautiful, fresh 'loving tribute' of this cherished classic. This fabulous revision respectfully brings the 'Tears' into 2023, Andre embodies the spirit of the song with a stunning vocal delivery, as Elbert provides an emotive soundtrack with the help of top quality musicians William Kurk (keys), Tom Laroye (percussion and Prophet 5 Synthesizer), Shamrock Guitor (guitar), and Evans Tate on Soprano Saxophone.
"After hearing him make magic, I knew that my band and I had to go in and create something special to back Andre’s embodied vocals!" - Elbert Phillips
Personally selected by Frankie Knuckles to be the House Godfather's warm-up DJ, Chicagoan native Elbert Phillips is mined from the seam of the Chicago House music scene. Elbert is a producer and remixer who has worked with Josh Milan, Ursula Rucker, Andre Espeut, Shamrock Guitor, and Carla Prather, to name a few. His productions and remixes have landed on labels such as Chillifunk, Soul N Pepa, King Street Sounds, Peppermint Jam, Street King and more. Elbert produces the Monthly Statement show for UK station Soul-Power Radio, and a weekly broadcast for Passion Ibiza Radio.
